Not Enough Time

On December 17th, Howard was back at The Burr to defend their home against the Memphis Tigers. Our Lady Bison were undefeated at home, 3 - 0, with the Tigers, 2 - 2, away. The game began with Anzhane’ Hutton, Destiny Howell, Iyanna Warren, Krislyn Marsh, and Kaniyah Harris. The game started off a little slow with our Lady Bison ending the 1st quarter, 8 - 17. It wasn’t over, and the game really began to pick up for our Lady Bison. With a clutch 3 from Vanessa Udoji, a few offensive rebounds from Hutton, and critical free throws from Brooklyn Fort-Davis and Warren, our Lady Bison finished the first half tied with the Tigers, 28 - 28. The 3rd Quarter was tit for tat with the Tigers. Every shot made by a Lady Bison was complimented with another from the Tigers. Our Lady Bison left the 3rd .Quarter down by 1, finishing 40 - 41. Now was the time to leave it all on the table. Our Lady Bison fought hard, but fell short, ending the game 50 - 56. There was just not enough time. They were 6 for 13 on the free throw line in the final quarter, and 17 for 28, leaving them with a 60.7% overall free throw percentage. Those points alone would’ve been game changers.

Aside from the outcome, they wouldn’t have nearly been as close without their hustle. Anzhane’ Hutton had an impressive 13 rebounds and was one of the leading scorers with 11 points. Brooklyn Fort-Davis led the team with 12 points. It is no surprise that Iyanna Warren was a natural leader on the court as well, leading her team with 11 points and 7 assists. As we head closer into the new year, both games against American University and University of Dayton were canceled due to COVID protocols. We hope to get back to work on January 8th against Delaware State in Dover, Delaware. This is our first matchup this season to compete for the MEAC Championship. This game and the ones after are very critical for playoffs, so we hope our Lady Bison can get back in the gym and get to work.
