All Smiles at The Burr, But the Mission Stays the Same
After coming home from an away game on December 12th at George Washington University where our Lady Bison fell short 53 - 62, Howard faced UMBC, December 14th, at home to defend their home court. With an overall record of 4 - 5 and 2 - 0 at home, this was their moment of redemption. The first half of the game was a nail biter. The Terriers maintained a dangerously close distance to our Bison, finishing the first half with our Lady Bison leading 36 - 35. If we’ve learned anything about our Bison this season, we know that we do not crack under pressure. Anzhane’ Hutton stepped up in the 3rd Quarter, scoring 6 of her 11 points in layups, shooting 50% from the field. Hutton was not only a leading scorer, but she also helped her team by leading defensively in rebounds with Krislyn Marsh and Brooklyn Fort-Davis. Coach Ty mentions post-game that when Hutton gets going the team is different. With some critical free throws, jumpshots from Destiny Howell and Kaiya Creek, and game-changing layups from Hutton, Marsh, and Fort-Davis, the Bison finished the third quarter with a 12-point lead, 58 - 46. As we approached the 4th Quarter, the light continued to shine upon our Bison. Coach Ty impressively rotated 12 of her 14 players where 24 of the 74 total points came from off the bench. Kaiya Creek and Aniya Wilson took complete advantage of their time to shine, with Creek coming in, securing a couple of clutch 3’s and Wilson with an assist and jumper. I would be remiss to not mention Iyanna Warren’s consistent performance as a guard, consistently leading her team in assists and drawing plays. Our Lady Bison finished the game with a 13-point lead, 74 - 61. With their fiery competitive spirits, they are 5 - 2 from their last seven games, and stand with a 5 - 5 overall record. Our Bison will continue to fight to protect The Burr on Friday, December 17th against Memphis at 5pm.
